Since the WEB 2.0 conference held in 2004 and as Tim O'Reilly of O'Reilly
Publishing explains in his article the word web 2.0 has gained monstrous
proportions. One cannot ignore this hot new buzz word anymore.
But what is WEB 2.0? Is it some kind of replacement for the existing web
standards or is it just a hype created by the so called internet marketing
Gurus. Non I would say.
The technologies used in any web 2.0 apps / websites were available even before
Tim O'Reilly announced its arrival. So what makes web 2.0 so special.
In my opinion it is the combination of new and old technologies and tools along
with a strong sense of sharing and connectivity that makes these web 2.0 apps
and websites so different.
Services like Blogs,RSS Feeds and Tags for Categorizing popular links and Lightbox
and Bookmarking Video and Picture Sharing and Ofcourse social networking are all
part of the new web 2.0 standard.
As far as the design concept goes a web 2.0 application will have its content
centrally placed and will have big fonts,bright colours, will have newer
technologies embedded like AJAX ,lightboxes,CSS Rollovers,content box,
Table less structure and ofcourse valid XHTML.
Apart from the above, gradients,large mac type buttons,stripes,rounded
corners and drop shadows will rule the design. In short the design / layout will
be simple and easy to move, and the content centrally placed.
To end this small article I would summarize the web 2.0 concept as an
application with a colorful GUI , which connects people together to work, share,
discuss and develop. |
